Wix, Squarespace, or a custom site. Which one's right for me?

There are lots of handy custom site-building platforms out there, like Wix, Squarespace, or WordPress, and those sites can absolutely get the job done. If you want to handle everything yourself from start to finish, those sites might be the right choice for you.

But there are some serious caveats to using those services. One of the largest ones that we've seen with our clients is that code that's built on a custom platform isn't transferable elsewhere. You can't simply pick up and take your Wix or Squarespace site over to Bluehost or Hostinger whenever Wix and Squarespace change their prices. When you use these websites you are one hundred percent vendor locked in. They essentially have a monopoly over your business as far as internet traffic goes, and using their marketplace of freelancers is expensive, and they're often outside of the United States and not very responsive.
